Taking Care of a Super King Quilt Cover
Most of us spend about 35% of our lives sleeping under a quilt and taking a snooze on our pillows. But what about cleaning them? It may look simple enough. You may do your laundry every week; just load a bunch of your clothes in the washing machine, add some washing powder and fabric softener and turn some dials here and there. There, you will get your clothes clean and fresh within an hour.
But cleaning a super king quilt cover is another story altogether. It is very technical to clean the fabric due to its large size. Additionally, the materials used to make these covers might not be able to survive regular ways of cleaning. Or the cover might not fit into your washing machine. So, how do we take care of a super king quilt cover? The answer is right below:
First of all, always aim to wash your quilt covers once every two to three months at least. Always check for labels that indicate whether the cover can be washed or not. Additionally, these labels also indicate whether the cover can be ironed or only needs to be dried in the sun. If you have stains in your cover, make sure you remove those before moving ahead. Simply rub the stained area with a concentrated solution of detergent and water.
Once you are ready, stuff the quilt cover in your washing machine. Make sure you have enough space in the machine so that the cover can be cleaned effectively. Next, add cold water, detergent, and a fabric softener and turn the machine on at normal settings.
If your washing machine is lacking space, you can also wash the quilt cover by hand. Make use of a large basin or bowl and knead the cover to force the water-detergent mixture through the weave. Rinse at least twice.
Most super king quilt cover can be dried in a clothes dryer. But, you can also hang it out to dry under the sun if you are looking to avoid any fabric damage or potential shrinkage. After the washing process, hand the cover out to dry on a clothesline.
Before storing the king size quilt cover, iron out all the creases. It is also a better alternative if you iron the quilt cover inside out. You need to be careful if the snap catches of the cover are made of plastic; avoid ironing over them in case they have low melting points.
Replacing your quilt cover
If you wish to replace the washed and dried quilt cover with the one on your mattress right now, remove the old one and place the washed cover on it and spread it. Make sure you get the dimensions correct; the long side of the quilt cover will run lengthwise and the shorter side will run the width of the bed.
Keep tagging on all sides till it spreads evenly, pulling on the sides one after the other. Once you laid the quilt cover perfectly without any visible wrinkles, you can begin fastening the cover to the bed by pulling the cover under the bed on the corners. This will stop the cover from slipping away.
To make sure that your king-size quilt cover lasts for a long time to come, it is very wise to store them properly. You need to make sure that they are in perfectly dried conditions with no leftover moisture. This moisture will be the main reason for mould growth on your cover. Fold them up neatly and store them in such a place that it remains free from direct contact with sunlight and moisture.
